Taste
Taste
Taste is the project of singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Tyler Cates. More than just being the sum of his influences, the band’s sound has been cultivated through a wide variety of experiences, including contributing guitar work to some of the biggest hip-hop albums of the past decade, releasing a dance album with the Grammy Award-winning J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League under the name “Lazy Americanz”, and performing for two nights with them at the legendary Red Rocks amphitheater.

Taking cues from modern production techniques as well as masters from decades past, the Taste's debut EP is eclectic, bold, and uniquely funky. Having just completed work in the studio, the collection of songs on "Luxurious Life" recall the grooves of Talking Heads, impassioned vocal performances reminiscent of Bowie, Collins, and Tears for Fears, guitar work that runs the gamut from Studio 54 disco chank to shredding leads, swirling synth soundscapes, and heavy hitting drums. Checkit out now on all digital outlets.

“Ride to Harlem, Hollywood, Jackson, Mississippi”! Part of the verse of the second longest number-one song in Billboard history (Uptown Funk Mark Ronson), that has raised many questions as to the how, what, why and who Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars are referring to. The “how” came about from a journey up the Mississippi River, from New Orleans to Chicago, that met a STARR in Jackson, Mississippi. The “what” was the unquestionable SOUL that enriches the soil of the great state of Mississippi and its musical heritage. The “why” was to find the recipe of a young soul sista, sprinkled with a tablespoon of Chaka Khan and a few more ingredients along the likes of a southern Baptist church. The “who” is Keyone’ Starr.

Born L. Keyone’ Edwards, raised amongst a family led by a pastor, filled with soulful songstresses and many musicians, this young one was destined to be struck by a “Key” note. Singing from the age of two became a way of life for the young Keyone’ with only one family rule, “Let it be real”. “Letting it be real” from the church to juke joint and back has landed Keyone’ on the main stage, performing to some of the largest crowds across the world. From Jackson, Mississippi to the cities of Los Angeles, New York, London, Valencia, Sydney and many more, Keyone’ continues to blaze the stage awhile introducing another element of funk and soul to the world. Under the craftsmanship of producers and musicians extraordinaire, Mark Ronson and Jeff Bhasker, this simple southern girl is bound to catch fire and ignite your funky two-step.

Her latest recording feature( I Can’t Lose – Mark Ronson) is currently being performed on various talk shows(Alan Carr: Chatty Man – British Comedy, BBC Radio – Live Lounge), festivals(Festival Internacional de Benicasssim, Love Box Festival, Glastonbury Festival) and live shows(Splendour in the Grass Live Show, Hordern Pavilion Live Show, Margaret Court Arena Live Show). The song, “I Can’t Lose”, is the third single and video to be released from the Album: Uptown Special and can be viewed on VEVO. With recordings on the shelf and collaborations on the horizon, Keyone’ is expected to be one of the greatest Vocalists and songwriters by way of the Mighty Mississippi.

With an uncompromised work ethic and sincerity for the authenticity of music, this well-versed singer, song writer and percussionist has the power to alleviate the nostalgia for the real melodic experience the industry craves. “My heart is with the independent artist. I believe a dope artist should never be a starving artist.” he is a Virginia native. His bond with the arts was solidified when he became a church drummer as a youth—that’s where the foundation was built. J' finally gained the confidence to pursue a career full-time singing after being selected for a 2006 Army Soldier Tour.

Largely due to the tone of his voice, J. has been compared to the likes of another extremely talented artists, and while it’s humbling and complimentary, he’s comfortable in his own lane. As a new artist his resume boasts impressive collaborations with Grammy winning song writers and producers — gaining knowledge simultaneously reminding him to stay focused. Citing Louis Armstrong, Bilal, Kanye, Luther and Ray Charles as his original musical influences, J's strives to impact the music industry positively like his predecessors. Truly a lover of people, he also hopes to enrich the human experience with his efforts.
